  1. On one hand it seems likely he is just stoking his ego and trying to sell his book, on the other his ego is so big he probably thinks he can pull it off. Who knows.

  2. It’ll shake up a race where Franken has been stuck trailing Coleman for the past few months, so perhaps the uncertainty can throw Coleman’s people off their game. But in a race where one candidate is a comedian and another a former pro wrestler, Coleman might be able to position himself “above” the fray as an experienced representative, despite the fact that most Minnesotans categorically disagree with his record.

I’d be fine with Ventura winning that race, but I’m strongly rooting for Franken to pull out a win.

  3. He lives in Mexico now and loves it there.  His family didn’t want him to run for Governor, didn’t like it when he was Governor, and don’t want him to run for Senator.  This is all just to get more publicity for his book (that doesn’t mean he won’t pretend to run to keep up the book sales).

  4. … but I am not nearly as sure as I once was.

Why I think he won’t run:

    – He would lose and I don’t think his ego can handle that. When he ran for govenor nobody thought he had a chance so it  was easy to beat expectations. Not this time, his followers expect him to win.

    – He hates to fly. I know this sounds like a small thing but I have heard he really really hates to fly. He had a blood clot a few years ago and the idea of sitting still on an airplane for three hours scares him.

    – He is very thin skinned. In the 1998 govenors race nobody attacked him at all. Nobody thought he could win so they just ignored him. Al Franken could make Jessie’s head explode at a debate.

  5. and he can’t get public financing the way he did in the guv race.

all the same he might do it just for fun and so people will pay attention to him again.  i hate to say it but i think he’ll run and help Norm – who he hates.

    uggh.

    really hoping i’m wrong.

  6. If he ran. If he spends all of his time attacking Coleman, It could be enough for Franken to sneak through.  It seems like his only arguement against Franken is “he’s a crapetbagger” but so is he if he lives in Mexico.  Either way I vote he won’t run.

An attorney from a well-known family in Minnesota legal circles says she will challenge Senate candidate Al Franken in a Democratic primary.

Priscilla Lord Faris says she will file the paperwork to run in the September primary.

Lord Faris is the daughter of retired federal judge Miles Lord, who remains active in DFL politics. She is managing partner of a personal injury law firm.

There are also two perenial canidates running but they pose no threat. I don’t know much about Lord Faris but her father is very well known in Minnesota.
